One of the perks? Every month we shine the spotlight on one of our members. Their story gets featured here on the blog, shared in my newsletter, and celebrated across socials, all to help more people discover their work and support their business. So without further ado…meet Emma!
What is the name of your business?
Emma-Jane’s Artbreak
Where is your business based?
Milnerton, Cape Town
What is your Instagram handle / website / store link?
@ejpartbreak
How would you describe your business or creative work in one sentence?
I create custom and unique paintings, hand-painted cards and event stationery using watercolour, pens and a dash of sparkle! Popular requests include cute pet portraits and themed thank you cards.
What inspired you to start your business or creative journey?
My gran encouraged art and creativity from a young age and even held an art exhibition for my sister and I where she invited all her friends to see our creations. Friends who have seen my work started making requests here and there so I started a bit of an arty side hustle which I hope to one day turn into a viable business!
What are you currently working on or excited about right now?
My cousin is getting married soon and I’ll be hand crafting some of her wedding stationery ❤️
How has being neurodivergent shaped the way you work or create?
There are many challenges that come with being neurodivergent but I’ll speak about the positives here. When I get in the zone, I can create something awesome from start to finish in one sitting using my hyperfocusing super power. I get a lot of enjoyment from seeing my work come together as the time ticks on. I also think neurodivergence has helped my creativity, and helps me to think outside of the box. I’ve learnt to reframe “procrastination” as my idea generation phase. My mind is always working things out in the background, even when I’m not actively putting pen to paper.
What’s your go-to tool or app?
My bullet journal 🤣 it serves the dual purpose of being a planning tool and a tool that makes my art and creativity part of my daily life.
What do you love most about being a member of Poptart Creatives?
So far, I’ve loved the support and check-ins from Lauren, and I also really love the resources. I’m going on my first wellness walk with Poptart tomorrow so I’m looking forward to that as well.
What’s one lesson you’ve learned on your journey so far (a nugget of wisdom you'd like to share with others)?
To trust the process. That applies to both creating art and just living life in general- keep at it and trust the process will lead to the correct outcome.
